The man with 9 fingers would have been 63 today. He could play more with those 9 fingers than most people could with 20!

Some things he said:

• I like someone who embraces life; who wants to be on a long journey but has no particular plan or destination in mind. An adventurous man, open to the concept of living life in the moment.
• For me, the lame part of the Sixties was the political part, the social part. The real part was the spiritual part.
• Nobody stopped thinking about those psychedelic experiences. Once you've been to some of those places, you think, ''How can I get back there again but make it a little easier on myself?''
• Somebody has to do something, and it's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.
• Constantly choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil.
• Playing live for a good cause is something I like to do. I like the response of the Indian people, I like their depth and the way they look beyond the surface of things.
• You do not merely want to be considered just the best of the best. You want to be considered the only ones who do what you do

To many religious Americans, faith has a legitimate role in shaping the laws of the nation. But many of the Americans who claim to have no religion disagree. A U.S. Air Force colonel has been charged with painting obscenities on parked cars bearing pro-President Bush bumper stickers, police said on Wednesday.

... the Woodstock Music and Art Fair drew more than 450,000 people to a pasture in Sullivan County. For four days, the site became a countercultural mini-nation in which minds were open, drugs were all but legal and love was "free". The music began Friday afternoon at 5:07pm August 15 and continued until mid-morning Monday August 18. The festival closed the New York State Thruway and created one of the nation's worst traffic jams. It also inspired a slew of local and state laws to ensure that nothing like it would ever happen again.
